The Moustache Is A Goner

The Insider will not be renewing the overpaid Pat O'Brien's contract when it expires. That voice of his will be having a hard time finding an audience following a sleezy drug-induced phone message he left back in March 2005 that leaked.

He left slurred messages on a woman's voice-mail, suggesting they "get some coke" and have a threesome with a hooker (because his girlfriend, now fiancée, had dropped out) before entering rehab.

"When Pat went away for several weeks to recover, 'The Insider' ratings did not change," says a source. "That's significant when you're paying the host $4 million." The scandal also hurt him among female viewers, who are the bulk of the show's audience.

"The producers felt they had no choice - his credibility became a huge liability for the show," says a separate source. "He is so furious that he stopped speaking to staff members."

Another insider chimes in: "Very few people get fired outright. They will offer to renew his contract at an insulting salary, maybe half. Basically, he's a goner."

A show spokesman said: "We don't discuss terms of contract with any of our talent."

Good riddance I say. Creep.

I am so glad to read this. I heard that voice-mail he left and it was stomach-churning. Not just because of the content but because of the super sleazy tone of voice he was using while saying it. But what really made me sick was the way he tried to excuse it away after it was made public. Saying "I'm a single man", blah blah, blah. As if that was really the point.

I have a feeling though that his firing was more about his age than that voice-mail fiasco because they sure didn't have a problem allowing this creep to remain on the air. They could have paid off his contract and told him to get lost. Programs like Inside Edition, Extra, etc. are using younger and younger hosts. They just have a convenient excuse to unload an old man, albeit a well deserved unloading.
