Frenzy Over UnPlastic Bag

Shoppers lined up at 2am this morning in London for a chance to get their hands on the most sought after handbag of the moment. Anya Hindmarch's shopping bag. It's a reusable cotton canvas bag, with the logo I'm Not A Plastic Bag, meant to draw attention to the catastrophe that is the amount of plastic bags in our landfills.

You've probably seen it on the arm of some of Britain's finest - Lily Allen, Sienna Miller and Keira Knightley, hence it's instant popularity. Its "It" bag credentials were secured when it was chosen as the goodie-bag for guests at the 2007 Vanity Fair Oscar night party.
Hindmarch developed the cotton bags with the We Are What We Do movement, a not for profit organisation which encourages people to use simple every day actions to change the world.

The designer said: "The idea was to create something that was really desirable to highlight ethical issues without being really worthy.

"It's amazing seeing people walking around with this billboard and I have mine with me all the time."

"When I started thinking about designing it I realized I could do something quite exciting and had a funny feeling it would be quite popular, but I wish we had ordered more bags because my shop's been like a call centre in these last few weeks because people have been really frustrated they have not been able to get hold of them."

By the time the bags went on sale at 8am queues were snaking around buildings with thousands of women, and a few men, hoping to snap up a Hindmarch creation.

As tension grew, one woman was heard declaring, "You know I will fight for one of these bags don't you?"

Some 20,000 of the bags, selling for £5, were up for sale. But with just a small number of bags in each store, only the most devoted of shoppers were successful.

By 9am many stores had already sold out and by lunchtime they had sold out at all 450 stores making for one of the most unusual fashion bonanzas ever seen.

I'm Not A Plastic Bag will be released in the US this June.

Tobey Maguire may seem humble and soft-spoken, but today's Page Six spins a different web.....

While on tour promoting Spiderman 3, the most expensive movie ever made, Tobey likes to maintain his at-home lifestyle.

Maguire rolls with an entourage of 10, including his fiancée, Jennifer Meyer, their daughter, Ruby, and a personal chef who cooks him vegetarian meals. The star also requires "two cases of the water he likes, a rocking chair in his hotel bedroom, and a full-size refrigerator." A rep for Maguire had "no comment."

Rosie Said "One Year, 10 Million Or Nothing"

We all know by now, Rosie O'Donnell announced yesterday that she won't be renewing her contract with The View once it expires in mid-June. She wanted to sign on for another year, but ABC Daytime wanted her to sign for three.

Today the dollars they were throwing around have been revealed. ABC Daytime offered Rosie 30 million dollars to sign on for three years and she refused. She asked for 10 million for one year which the network turned down. Both parties held their ground, and Rosie made her announcement on yesterday's show.

Both Rosie and ABC say she will return to do guest hosting duties and head a couple hour long specials on Autism and Children's charities for the network.

Lindsay - Just So Damn Alluring

Liv Tyler has admitted she is back on the cigarettes although she tries to keep it on the down low.

The 29-year-old, who gave birth to son Milo in 2004, says she restarted the bad habit after a film role required she smoke. Tyler says, "I'm afraid I smoke sometimes, "I did give up for a long time when I had Milo, but on my last film my character smoked and that was bad for me. I don't like it, but I secretly love it. I know it's terrible."

More than half of my girlfriends are "closet smokers". I'm serious. Some smoke and their husbands have no idea. Others smoke when they drink. It's like a way to hang onto your youth I think. I have my own ways. heh

Rosie Is Leaving The View! Trump Is So Pleased With Himself.

Rosie O'Donnell announced that she will be leaving The View mid-June of this year once her contract with ABC expires. Rosie opted to sign a one year deal with ABC Daytime, where the network had wanted her to sign for three.

"This has been an amazing experience, and one I wouldn't have traded for the world. Working with Barbara, Joy and Elisabeth has been one of the highlights of my career, but my needs for the future just didn't dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me. To all the viewers out there, I just want to say 'thank you' for opening up your hearts and your homes to me this past year. But you can always find me at rosie.com. Here's hoping there's more confetti for all of us going forward."

Barbara Walters reponded to say that she had nothing to do with Rosie departure and wishes she would stay.

"I induced Rosie to come back to television on 'The View' even for just one year. She has given the program new vigor, new excitement and wonderful hours of television. I can only be grateful to her for this year. I am very sad that ABC Daytime could not reach an agreement with her for a second year. We will all miss Rosie on 'The View,' and hope she will be back with us often next season. She remains for me a cherished friend and colleague."

"We have had, to say the least, an interesting year … an exciting, fun-filled, provocative year. We have all gotten together and you will be missed," Walters said, adding, "I do not participate in the negotiations for Rosie. It was between your representatives and agents. This is not my doing."

Brian Frons, president of daytime programming for ABC said, "That's the business, and something we knew was a real possibility the entire time. So we part as friends, and hope that we can entice Rosie back next year to take part in a series of one-hour specials for us like our recent show on autism. And maybe, if we're lucky, we'll be able to convince her to guest co-host once in a while as well."

The View should prepare themselves for a big ratings dive. That is unless they get another colourful commentator.

Gwyneth & Courtney - New BF's

Courtney Love & Gwyneth Paltrow have been spending quite a bit of time together in Los Angeles lately. You might say Gwynnie is the one who got Courtney on the macrobiotic diet she says helped her lose over 50 lbs. Courtney completely denies surgery of any kind, just good old fashion diet and exercise. Gwyneth has been macrobiotic for years and is practices yoga and pilates religiously. The odd couple were seen out at Wolfgang Puck's Beverly Hills restaurant Cut on Monday night.

That's not all. The pair was lucky enough to run into The Cruise's while they were dining.........

Usmagazine.com has learned that Paltrow, 34, and Love, 42, who first met in 1997, have rekindled a friendship that had broken off after Paltrow began spending most of her time in London.

A source tells us now that Paltrow is back working more in Los Angeles, the pair has been hanging out and "bonding over yoga," which Love recently began practicing in earnest as part of her new health regime (Love has lost 50 pounds since December).

"Gwen's happpy to see Courtney healthy and happy again and wants to be there for her and help her acting comeback," says a source, adding that Paltrow refers to Love's recent era of substance abuse as a time when the rocker was "out sick."

Fellow Cut diners Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes at one point in the night stopped by Paltrow's table to say hello, with Cruise putting his arm around Love with the kind of exuberance we haven't seen since he went on Oprah. "You look like a movie star!" Cruise was overheard telling Love.

Aniston Signs With SmartWater

Us Magazine has learned exclusively that Aniston is closing a deal with Glaceau, the makers of smartwater, to be the face of its next worldwide advertising campaign.

Aniston, who over the years has appeared in ads for everything from Heineken beer to Lynx deodorant, is expected to appear in ads for smartwater, an "electrolyte enhanced" drink with the slogan "water that's the envy of all water."

Says a source close to the deal, "Jen has a clean image and that's smartwater's whole image, so she's perfect for it."

I totally believe this rumour. Since I, and others, posted pictures of Jen with a bottle countless times a over the last month, I had noticed some readers had found my site by googling Aniston and smartwater. At least a couple dozen times. Glaceau obviously caught wind of this. Or Aniston's people contacted their people about all the free publicity they were getting. I hope she can put the bottle down once in awhile.

And ya, it may just be water, but damn it tastes good.
